    Hi, Bonnie,

I taught the Canon Press logic course several years ago and
am currently teaching a group of home-schooled students
using TL.

CP is less easy for the teacher with "rusty" logic skills
to teach

and more challenging for the student to master. Occasionally,

my students actually were able to come up with statements
(to complete the exercises) that were clearer than those in
the teacher's guide/answer key. The entire course seemed to
cover too much too briefly with inadequate explanations or
exercises to assure mastery of the subject.

Traditional Logic assumes that the student is an absolute
beginner. The explanations are thorough and clear and the
review exercises are quite simple. My youngest students
(11) have not had trouble with the TL exercises. The
exercises in TL do not give the student the opportunity,

however, to apply the concepts being learned to real arguments.

In contrast, the CP Logic course includes exercises where
the students are expected to apply the principles being
learned to every-day arguments

not framed in categorical statements. The process of analyzing

real arguments has been so valuable to my older students! I
find that my 15yo students are able to complete the CP
exercises, whereas my 11 and

12 yo students are overwhelmed by them.

Mr. Cothran has made TL accessible for the youngest
dialectic students

and for teachers lacking confidence. The Mars Hill Logic book makes a great

source for application exercises once students have
mastered the basic

principles using Traditional Logic. I look forward to seeing Traditional

Logic 2, which I believe is planned for release next year.

I hope this helps.
