Could someone please explain all of the differences to me, and which one would be easiest and most thorough to use with a bright 2nd/3rd grader. > > Thank you so much, Angela Hi Angela! You probably are familiar with this Latin review site, but I'll post just in case: http://www.classicalhomeschooling.org/celoop/latin.html#review I'm not sure about the Matin Latin, but I've seen past reviews from classed-ers, so *someone* out there knows! But starting out, as I understand it, you want your student to be solid in their phonics of English so that the study of a new phonics (different sounds for the same phonograms) won't throw the student. Also, starting out (2nd and 3rd grades) the emphasis is usually high in vocabulary and memorizing chants as vs. heavy grammar studies at this point. Also, the assumed Latin knowledge of the teacher is of consideration for many of us! Here's what I gather with Latina Christiana and Latin Primers: -Christiana: suitable for the grammar stage, has ecclesiastical pronunciation, emphasizes vocab and phrases, songs and translations. Assumes no prior knowledge from the teacher. -Latin Primer: suitable for grammar stage, classical pronunciation, emphasizes vocab and memory work, and teacher's might need to study Latin prior to using. Like I said, general! Am eager to hear about Matin Latin...I haven't retained what I've seen in the past about it. Seems to me it's an "elementary version" of another popular one out there, but I'm not sure. Happy hunting! KC |
