I, too, have been trying to decide how to do grammar. I reviewed the Shurley materials and viewed the video and had the same feelings about it being more of classroom program--something that seemed jarring in a home atmosphere. I also read about all the other known homeschool programs for grammar and felt more confused than ever. I finally decided to go with the Well-Trained Mind recommendations--beginning with English for a Thoughtful Child and continuing with Abeka or the Zaner-Bloser text (I'm not sure which one yet--I'm a little leery of Abeka because of what can seem like an excessive workbook approach but glad to read in the previous post that it is "impressive"). So, can only tell you what I decided to do; whether it works or not remains to be seen. Carol in CT |
