>I've NEVER responded to anything like this before but I just HAVE to say that Shurley Grammar has been a BLESSING to our "kitchen table classroom" this year. In fact, I called them directly and discovered that they ARE printing a homeschooler's version of Shurley. The "first" Shurley Grammar was used in the classroom and when it became "new and improved" this first version became the "homeschooler's version" for $65. (Teacher's Manual, Workbook, Tape) I was told by a representative from Shurley Grammar that the original version ($65-Homeschooler's version)would go out of print after the "improved" (in the sense that it really is CREATED for the homeschooler now) is printed. This put me in a bind because I am perfectly happy with the "old" first version. So my friend and I just bought all of the levels together and we're waiting for them to go out of print so that we can legally share them. It works perfectly right now because our little ones are at different levels and we can use the additional workbooks that we purchased until the "out of print" is effective. Does any of this make sense? I guess my long explanation is a vain attempt to convince you to give it a try. My children love it! (3rd and 1st graders) It has been so much fun to see my little boy (7yrs old) enjoy classifying sentences BEFORE he was reading well. THAT'S how terrific this program is for us! Now his reading has really taken off and the grammar is a breeze. As you move through the levels you'll see the "layers" begin to form quite an excellent program. With all of the LATIN DILEMA I have been reviewing at this web site, Shurley Grammar's concise, incremental approach is very effective for really "playing" with the building blocks of understanding language. Veritas Press suggested starting Latin at a 3rd grade level...After recovering from my eye's popping out...I discovered that it's entirely possible with Levels 1-3,4 of Shurley under their belts. Okay, I'll stop. Just wanted to encourage the ladies (or gentlemen) to review the Teacher's Manual...It's quite organized and efficient. It really brings out the beauty of TEACHING over "workbook learning." I couldn't imagine the singing either, but it really does work!
